About Angela Sarafin
Angela is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the District of Columbia. She is also licensed as therapist and supervisor in the state of Texas. She earned her Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of Houston-Clear Lake.
Angela has two special areas of interest: 1. Women who are in transition including career changes, marriage and divorce, care-taking and dealing with elderly parents, trauma recovery, and escape from abusive situations.
2. Family-owned businesses. In addition to running a counseling business, Angela also works as a business process optimization consultant for ABT Financial Consultants, a company owned by her father and brother. These diverse interests and experiences give Angela a unique perspective in working with clients who are struggling to manage the work/life balance and the family dynamics unique to family-owned businesses.
Most of Angela's clients are at a crossroads in life. Her belief is that transitions provide a higher level of motivation, causing people to focus inward seeking new direction and creating a very powerful opportunity for personal growth and change. The challenge is in developing new skills and direction while managing the anxiety that arises when the old life no longer fits but the new life is yet undefined.
Angela provides counseling services for individuals and couples and often integrates a Christian perspective. This approach encourages you to consider how your faith impacts daily life, to explore the spiritual purposes for your life and family, to consider how God is working a difficult situation for your good and His glory, and to resolve anger and increase trust in God's sovereignty. For some clients details of how faith intersects with daily life is a topic for every session, for other clients explicit discussion of faith comes up only when there seems to be a disconnect between professed belief and actual thoughts or behaviors.
A few words from Angela: "Although I accepted Christ into my life when I was 7 years old, I remained in spiritual infancy for a very long time. The past 15 years have been a time of preparation through development of my counseling skills, transformation in my marriage, and learning to relax and let God take the reins. From 2007 to 2011, I experienced a phase of intense trial which resulted in both emotional and spiritual growth. As I learned to take my faith beyond Sunday morning and into my daily life, I found God leading me to address the spiritual concerns of my clients, as well as their emotional and behavioral concerns. I've found that God often gives me the opportunity to help wandering Christians find their way back to peace with God and I've also had the great joy of working with new Christians who are just figuring out what it means to be a new creation in Christ. If you aren't sure what you believe about Jesus or perhaps have some problems with church, I would love the opportunity to help you explore those topics."
