Just images of owls. Right now there's a picture of an owl on the wall calendar, a print of brightly colored owls behind the couch, a wooden sculpture on the bookcase, a trio of three hanging near my desk, a mug....
And of course, owls on my business cards.
The business is card is where it all started. I was looking for something that would convey something of my quirky personality, something interesting, and something that had meaning.
So what's meaningful about owls? Well, if you look at literature, owls are often associated with wisdom. (if you have a few random moments, check out http://www.owlpages.com).
Now I'm not claiming to have the market on wisdom, but I like to think of therapy as a place for seeking wisdom. I believe we always need the wisdom of Jesus, and fortunately it is ours if we'll just ask. The method of communication can differ widely though. Sometimes we already have the wisdom we need, we just haven't figured out how to apply it to a specific situation. Sometimes we need wisdom from someone who has been through a similar situation. Sometimes we need education on a topic and that increased understanding helps us make wise choices.
The other thing that I liked about the owl logo is the suggestion of togetherness. It's not just one owl imparting wisdom, it is a community effort. It speaks to our need for connection.
So that's the story of the owls. Maybe it will evolve beyond these ideas. For now, I think it's just right.
